Got a kick out of the trending hashtag #NonWritersSay the other day, full of little quips written by writers making fun of...well, non-writers. Stuff like "Man, I wish I was a writer. Your life must be so easy" by @edeckers and "You're a writer? When I retire, I'm going write. #NonWritersSay Me: Really? When I retire, I'm going to be a heart surgeon" by @TheMicheleWojo. It reminded me of a piece I was listening to on NPR the other day. Terri Gross was interviewing composer Philip Glass and he mentioned how people think that artists (in his case, composer-performers) don't really work or that they have it easy between these bursts of creativity, but in reality many artists are laborers with routines and work schedules. Pro writers and musicians, I'd say, probably have to work long hours more than certain other art forms. That may be inaccurate...

That's hilarious! It's incredible how twisted people's views are of writers and how "simple" their lives must be. I'm a little disappointed I missed that hashtag but if you think those tweets were funny, check out @GuyInYourMFA on Twitter. You won't be disappointed.

So this week, something I’ve noticed was the trending of the Giraffe cam hosted by Animal Planet. They partnered up with the Dallas Zoo to broadcast the birth of a baby giraffe live on camera. The momma giraffe’s name is Katie and she’s due basically any day now. Currently when I go on the cam, there are over 5,000 people watching and the camera itself has garnered over one million views since it was put up earlier this week. It’s actually quite remarkable, because the opportunity for this to happen on camera allows zoologists and biologists to learn even more about giraffes while it also creates an excellent opportunity to educate the general population on giraffes in the wild and in captivity. I also think this is an excellent use of social media because it promotes both the Animal Planet channel and the Dallas Zoo as well as providing an educational platform. It also may inspire people to head to their own local zoos as spring continues on so that they can see their zoo’s baby animals.

I agree with you that the promotions the zoo did for the giraffe will definitely bring in more visitors and is definitely a learning experience for everyone involved.

I agree with both of you. Something like this shows both the Dallas Zoo and the Animal Planet channel are committed to providing visitors/viewers with unique opportunities to learn about the world's animals. It's a great example of both organizations putting content out there that will help to create positive brands for both of them. 4/10/2015 07:44:30 am
This article talks about the things that will be talked about 700 years from now and at the same time I find it super funny. But I also get why the things listed could still be around and the reason I think would be the people shown in the shots. This goes back to what I read in No Bullshit Social Media by the trends being able to be popular can stay that way through the viewer and which one could argue could be seen as the customer.

I was looking through trending topics on Facebook today and found a lovely example of a creative promotion set up and publicized on social media. Tomorrow, in 7-Eleven convenience stores around the country, it's "Bring Your Own Cup Day"! What does that mean? It means that, on Saturday, anyone can bring any watertight, reasonably sanitary container no more than 10 inches in diameter to any participating 7-Eleven and have it filled with any available flavor of Slurpee for just $1.49. Unfortunately, trash cans are too big and unsanitary, shoes are just gross, and hats would leak. However, official social media accounts for the event have already approved (well-washed) dog bowls, coconuts, teapots, trophies, pitchers, KFC chicken buckets, fishbowls, hollowed-out pineapples, helmets, water melons, sand pails, vases, and more for use as Slurpee containers.

So HTC is either coming out with or re-launching their HTCOneM9 phone which features UH OH Protection. With this, you can get one free phone replacement for a cracked screen, water damage, or if you switch carriers. The only reason I know this is because HTC made a #ThanksUhOh hashtag on Twitter that’s trending. They named their product in their initial tweet, provided a piece of their commercial video, included the hashtag, and included the link to their website which would further explain what the UH OH protection is. I think this was a great use of social media and allowed people to learn more and engage with others about their experiences right there in one forum.

The shooting of Walter Scott has been all over social media of course. Most people already know what happened, a man in South Carolina was shot and killed supposedly after he stole an officer's taser, video appeared of the man being shot in the back and the taser apparently being planted, now the cop is up for murder.
