I hate being redundant, but this is indeed really cool. This trailer has me pretty pumped for the movie (though there's a long, long wait still ahead *sigh*), and I'm not even a massive Star Wars fan. I hope it lives up to the trailer!

Something that I wanted to highlight on was a video that I saw not only on Facebook and Twitter, but also on various other sites. This video is for Nike Women's clothing and shoes. The video is called Better For It- Inner Thoughts. And it is a video that pans through different gym scenes where there are women who you can tell feel uncomfortable being around other people who are very fit and know what to do. But, they finally break through their insecurity and decide to push through their workout.

I love that! I think every girl can relate to that feeling of "everyone is judging me" at the gym and it's nice that Nike is focusing on those girls too, not just the "I have it all together" athletes.

Thanks for this. It's probably not the same, but I can relate to this feeling as a male also.

I agree, and echo Jedd in that we've all been there. I'm a runner who doesn't look like a runner. It can be hard!

I'm sure most people with internet or television already know but Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriots football player, was found guilty of first degree murder on Wednesday. He also racked up a few other charges, including "unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition." Although he deserves the punishment that fits the crime, a lot of people on social media were upset about how much coverage he was getting on ESPN. There seems to me a consensus that the sports outlet should be focusing on real athletes, not "trash." I think I would have to agree.

This article about changing the minimum wage to $15 an hour is a very interesting take on a controversial issue right now. Basically the author, Matt Walsh, expresses how unfair it is for people to demand a $15 an hour minimum wage for jobs that require no schooling, skill, or trade. He uses the analogy of working in fast food, and I think he's right. Working in fast food shouldn't be the end all be all for people, rather it should be a stepping stone where people can gain important work ethic and skills, while figuring out what they want to really do with their lives. I completely agree that the minimum wage shouldn't be the equivalent to being a teacher, police officer, EMT, dental technician, or electrician. I want people to be able to live comfortably, to be happy, and have the things they need. I just don't think it's fair to pay someone with no expertise the same amount as people who go to school for years, paying expensive student loans and other school costs. Any thoughts on this? What does everyone else think?

I agree with Jed, I was a little disappointed in Matt Walsh's take on the situation. I have often seen the stereotype that those in minimum wage positions are high school students trying to make a few extra dollars, when in reality they are people who are often providing for their whole family and for whatever reason are unable to move past a minimum wage position. The whatever reason usually has to deal with the cycle of poverty.

To be honest, I often disagree with Matt Walsh. In this blog, he supports his overwhelming yet ambiguous list of wage comparisons with his own career story. As a middle-class white Christian male, Walsh is likely not going to connect with the experience of the minority-race McDonald's employee living below the poverty level right now. (That said, I don't believe that raising the minimum wage is going to solve the greater socioeconomic problems that have given rise to movements like #FightFor15.) Still, I would take a look at the article I've linked below from an admittedly left-leaning source, but at least written by an economist instead of Walsh, whose expertise--I find--is mainly writing provocative articles about controversial topics.

This frappuccino sounds like an absolute masterpiece. I'm definitely trying one as soon as they're released at the end of the month.

A truck in Washington State that tipped over this morning, resulting in the spill of over $90,000 worth of...bees. Yes, several million angry bees whose homes had mostly just been crushed. After being stung repeatedly, the police called in professional beekeepers to help with the cleanup. They also warned all drivers who had to pass the accident site to close all windows, vents, and any other points of entry to their cars closed in order to protect them from the swarm.

My favorite story of the week has been the Japanese man who takes his tortoise for a walk in Tokyo. This man has a pet African Spurred Tortoise that he takes on walks which are quite leisurely I'd imagine. I just thought this was extremely interesting because I've never heard of someone walking their turtles. He must have great patience to walk a turtle for miles in downtown Tokyo.

I agree with you that a person walking a turtle takes a lot of patience and that sounds really cute!

So this isn't a huge post, I just wanted to point out the fact that on Sunday, Hilary Clinton announced her bid for the Presidential Race. Now, I'm not sure if she made a formal, televised announcement, but I do know that there had been talk that she would make the announcement on Sunday, so I was waiting to hear about what channel and time, etc. I never heard that, but what I did SEE was her announcement tweet. I wasn't sure if this was her formal announcement, but either way it goes, I think it's cool that she/her camp did make an announcement via Twitter. I think this goes to show how social media is affecting everyone in every aspect of life. She's a "high and mighty" politician, but still found value in the news outlet that is Twitter.

This article talks about a thing a possum has that can save people from snake venom. I found this interesting and possibly something new that could aid in getting rid of the venom if it works. This could save a lot of lives. I never thought that a possum could be useful because they are always given a bad name.

Equal Pay Day was a huge deal this week with Tuesday being the Nationally recognized day where Americans acknowledge the pay gap between men and women. The day falls 104 days after the new year to show that it would take women an additional 104 days to make what a man makes in a year.
